Oroantral communication is artificially created, pathological communication between the oral cavity and the maxillary sinus. The most common cause of oroantral communication is the extraction of the upper premolars and molars, although it can also occur due to pathological processes in the periapical area of the same teeth. In addition to all the above, there are certain predisposing factors that increase further the possibility of oroantral communication. Pneumatized maxillary sinus, long and the divergent teeth roots, and inadequate, rough extraction technique are just some of them. Diagnosis is performed with the Valsalva test. By not diagnosing and not treating, oroantral communication leads to the complications in the form of oroantral fistula, which leads persistently to the development of maxillary sinusitis due to the entry of food and pathogenic factors from the oral cavity into the maxillary sinus.
