During the decision-making process, the patient must have a clear understanding of what the treatment involves, as well as realistic goals, achievable outcomes and duration of treatment. Orthognathic surgery is a unique endeavor in facial surgery: the patient's appearance and occlusal function can be significantly improved, affecting the patient's sense of self-esteem and well-being.
