Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) technique has been widely applied in dentistry. This thesis describes how the CBCT unit works and suggests its advantages compared to conventional radiology examinations. In the field of orthodontics, CBCT is used for the following operations: analysis of the morphology, position and resorption of the tooth root, defining the exact position of impacted teeth, and in the assessment of alveolar bone thickness and height in cases such as rapid palatal expansion and setting temporary anchorage devices. In addition, it can facilitate in the diagnosis of craniofacial anomalies, facial asymmetries, assist in planning orthognatic surgery, as well as aid in the assessment of the successful treatment. There are numerous advantages in the use of CBCT compared to conventional radiology examinations, the most important being its accuracy and ability to view images three-dimensionally. Accurate diagnostics is very important in order to achieve a proper clinical outcome, and CBCT analysis can greatly contributes to this process.
