Computer aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) have become a part of everyday dental medicine. Beside applying it in the fixed prosthodonthics, it is applied in the mobile prosthodonthics for fabricating the removable dentures. The work of this system (exp. AvaDent CAD/CAM system) is based on digital design and production of total removable dentures as independant entities and/or entities as a part of implant-prosthadonthics therapy. They give a fast and precise workmanship that shows a vast variety of advantages in relation to conventional methods. However, since it is a relatively new technology it shows a certain amount of deficit. Complete removable dentures can be made in two to three pacient visits to the dentist clinic. Laboratory work such as production of study and working casts, individual trays, record bases, arrangement of teeth and flasking, are not needed anymore. It is necessary only for virtual dental tehnician-programmer to know how to use the software programme in order to do these procedures on the computer. Also, the number of clinical procedures (pacient visits) to the clinic (exp. no more anatomical impressions and the usage of articulator and facebow). Another advantage is that the acrylic pack from which the removable dentures are made, shows improved mechanical properties and bio compatability because of less porus in the relation to conventional thermal-compression polymerization made from complete removable denture. The main disadvantage for the usage of this technology fabricating complete dentures is that clincal experience and special training of the therapist is much needed.
