Conventional impression method means taking impression by using a tray in which the impression material is applied. The advancement of technology has enabled the development of dental scanners, with intraoral scans of the dental arch, or an extraoral digital impression of the dental model. Material and technology comparison has been the subject of many studies and the results have shown that patients prefer digital over the conventional impressions and that the conventional method has more phases in the impression process, so the risk of errors is greater in the conventional than in the digital method and the time required for taking such impression is longer. With digital impressions there is a possibility of archiving and of sending digital images between the clinic and the laboratory what facilitates communication. The prosthetic constructions made on the basis of a digital imprint are better than the constructions made by a conventional method. Digital impression methods have some disadvantages, such as: high cost of the device and its maintenance, the necessity of additional education of doctors and dental technicians, and the inability of making prosthetic replacements that require a model if we do not own a 3D printer. Furthermore, digital impression methods show greater local deviation compared to conventional impressions when scanning an entire dental arch, so the impressions by polyether or vinylsiloxaneter are more accurate than the digital ones. The results of the comparison of laboratory scanners and intraoral ones have shown that lab scanners are more accurate. Conventional and digital impression methods have certain advantages and disadvantages, but both techniques can ultimately provide accurate impressions and quality dental replacement.
