Abstract Dosadašnje studije o odnosu mineralnog sastava sline i parodontnog statusa ostale su bez jasnih zaključaka, stoga je svrha ovog rada ispitati utjecaj i povezanost mineralnog sastava sline pušača i nepušača s parodontnim statusom. Prosječna i maksimalna vrijednost CAL-a je u statistički značajnoj pozitivnoj korelaciji s godinama pušenja (r=0.625520, r=0.630565, p<0.05) i koncentracijom salivarnog magnezija (r=0.832592, r=0.791549, p<0.05), dok je maksimalni i ukupni broj CAL-a u statistički značajnoj negativnoj korelaciji s vrijednostima protoka nestimulirane sline (r=-0.688395, p<0.05). Uz to, koncentracija salivarnog magnezija je u statistički značajnoj pozitivnoj korelaciji s ukupnim brojem CAL-a (r=0.767546, p<0.05) i CA (r=0.823045, p<0.05). Parodontni status je povezan s mineralnim sastavom sline.
Abstract (english) Previous studies on the relationship between mineral composition of saliva and periodontal status have reached inconsistent conclusions. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the influence and correlation between the mineral composition of smokers’ and non-smokers’ saliva and periodontal status. Samples of unstimulated saliva were collected from young male subjects who fall into two subsamples: non-smokers and those who smoke more than 20 cigarettes per day. Salivary flow was determined. The concentration of Calcium, Magnesium and Phosphate in saliva were measured with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer. Probing depth was measured for each tooth and the measurement included values from the mesial, central and distal parts of the gingival sulcus on the vestibular and oral sides. Also, for each tooth, periodontal indices of clinical attachment loss (CAL), bleeding on probing (BOP) and the presence of hard dental plaque (CA) were measured. The method of nonparametric descriptive statistics was used to determine the significance of the data obtained by saliva collection and periodontal examination, and the Spearman correlation coefficient was determined. Data analysis has shown that there is a statistically significant positive correlation between the mean and maximum CAL values and the number of years of smoking (r=0.625520, r=0.630565, p<0.05) as well as salivary magnesium concentration (r=0.832592, r=0.791549, p<0.05), while there is a statistically significant negative correlation between the maximum and total CALs and unstimulated saliva flow values (r=-0.688395, p<0.05). Finally, a statistically significant positive correlation is found between salivary magnesium concentration and the total CAL (r=0.767546, p<0.05) as well as CA (r=0.823045, p<0.05). The analysis has shown that periodontal status is related to the mineral composition of saliva.
