Dental medicine, as a profession, plays an important role in preserving oral and therefore the entire human health. By developing new technologies, oral health care is significantly more efficient. Metals and alloys are used as building materials in restorative and children's dental medicine, in prosthetics, surgery and orthodontics. Endodontic instruments and auxiliary work tools are made of them. Dental medicine materials should meet the properties of hardness, strength and biocompatibility due to specific oral cavity conditions. Metals as separate elements do not meet the required properties and have to undergo the alloying process in order to obtain alloys that meet the environmental criteria of the oral cavity. Alloys are metal materials consisting of basic metal and one or more alloying elements. Alloying elements are metals and, sometimes, small quantities of non-metals. Alloying changes mechanical properties, colour and nobility of an alloy. According to the proportion of noble metals, the dental alloys can be divided into noble and non-noble alloys. Development of new technologies has resulted in new alloys with the best properties in dental medicine so far. Titanium and titanium alloys with an exceptional biocompatibility feature in the oral cavity are emphasised here. Likewise, the advancement of computer technology (CAD/CAM) resulted in faster and better quality production of alloys used in clinical practice.
