Paranasal sinuses are cavities in the bones of the head formed by the process of pneumatization. All pneumatized spaces communicate with upper airways. In this way, they ventilate, exchange air and drain away excess mucus. Areas of visceral cranium that have lost their active role due to changes in function during evolution are resorbed during bone remodeling. Due to the close connection of nasal mucosa and sinuses, they react to different noxes at the same time. Rhinosinusitis is a significant public health problem due to its high prevalence, possible complications and impact on the quality of life. Chronic rhinosinusitis is a disease of multifactorial etiology. Statistically, 10% of rhinosinusitises are not rhinogenic, and are typically odontogenic. Due to close anatomical relations of the antrum and posterior maxillary teeth, odontogenic infection is a possible cause of maxillary sinusitis. Dentists are expected to be able to distinguish between odontalgia due to a dental cause and odontalgia due to maxillary sinusitis. Recognizing the difference in symptoms is important to prevent unnecessary dental interventions and refer the patient to an otorhinolaryngologist without delay. Odontogenic rhinosinusitis cannot be cured without curing the dental process, and the cooperation of an otorhinolaryngologist and a dentist is necessary.
