Abstract
Temeljem nacionalnih zakonskih regulativa i standarda EU postoji obveza uspostave sustava gospodarenja otpadom radi oĉuvanja i zaštite okoliša. Na lokalnoj razini potrebno je ispuniti navedene zahtjeve i provesti planske dokumente kao što je Plan gospodarenja otpadom u Gradu Zagrebu. U radu je prikazano i objašnjeno stanje provedbe sustava gospodarenja otpadom u Gradu Zagrebu, naĉini i mogućnosti povećanja oporabe i recikliranja, te posljedice za okoliš ukoliko se izostane provedba navedenih mjera. Razlozi promjene dosadašnjeg postupanja s otpadom potrebni su radi ekološke i socijalne komponente, te kako bismo modernizirali i uspostavili cjeloviti sustav gospodarenja otpadom po uzoru na europske zemlje koje ga uspješno provode.
