Objectives: Compare the biometrical characteristics of the today’s fetal population with those three decades ago and verify therewith the hypothesis about the existence of secular growth acceleration during fetal life. Create fetal growth curves for practical use and determine the justification of their creation for the own population by comparing them with curves of foreign authors. Determine in which moment during the pregnancy in cases of fetal growth disorder first such alterations can usually be remarked. Examinees and methods: In the period between 1st January 2002 and 31st December 2010, 1594 pregnant women with a singleton pregnancy between the 22nd and the 41st week have been examined. The examinees have been classified in three subgroups according to the fetal growth steps. The biparietal diameter, the femur lenght, the abdominal circumference and the transversal cerebellar diameter have been measured. The centile scale, the difference method, the analysis of variance, the nonparametric ANOVA (Kruskal-Wallis) test and the Mann - Whitney U test have been used for the interpretation and the comparison of the results. Results: 2728 examinations have overall been performed. The results have been presented through curves and tables. There have been no statistically significant differences between average and median values of biometric parameters and congeneric results three decades ago. However, statistically significant differences have been found during the comparison with the curves of fetal biometric parameters which we have used so far as reference values. It has been determined that the fetal growth deviations usually appear between the 25th and the 27th week of pregnancy. Conclusions: It hasn’t come to essential changes of fetal biometric characteristics in the last thirty years. The secular growth acceleration is doubtless a postnatal biological and evolutional phenomenon. The creation of the original fetal growth curves for the own population is justified.
