Feminism and fashion, although at first two very different terms, have been interconnected for many years of mutual influence. Feminism, a global movement that advocated women's suffrage, began in the early 1800s, while fashion is described as a system of institutions, organizations and practices that contribute to the creation of fashion itself, according to Kawamura. Both terms are defined as movements in their own way, but what binds them is an unbreakable relationship that was created throughout history. Various prejudices that marked women for centuries, such as inferiority to men, lower valuation, and non-existent level of equality with the opposite sex, created an environment that opened an opportunity for women who advocated for a different approach, such as the Suffragettes and their feminism. The struggle of women for their human rights lasted for decades, and we can say that it continues even today in the 21st century. What was extremely important for feminism was fashion. Fashion and fashion designers were the ones who supported their collections, expressed political views and thoughts. The topic of this thesis is the issues and relationships that fashion and feminism have had throughout history, especially today in the 21st century, and how they inspired each other, developed in parallel and encouraged each other.
