U razgovoru s izvornim govornikom, djeca pokazuju razumijevanje govora.
Abstract (english) The local speech of the city of Labin, known also as labinska cakavica, differs from other speeches of čakavština first and foremost in its sibilar pronunciation of relative pronoun ca instead of otherwise widely used ča. Although the esteemed Istrian linguist, pedagogue, professor and Istrian Tone Peruško wasn't familiar with the dialect, he noted half a century ago how the language of Labinjani is interesting “due to antiquity and its, so called, island characteristics, because it resembles the dialects of the islands of Kvarner and some Dalmatian islands. A Labinjan would get by just fine for example in Komiža on the island of Vis or in Trogir….” (Milevoj, 2006, pp 11.) Thanks to centuries old isolation of the dialect due in one part to the natural barrier called the mountain of Učka and early population of Slavs on the territory of today’s Labinština being the other, labinska cakavica is interesting to the philologists till this day. The purpose of this thesis was to show the frequency of usage of typical cakavisms in written form by grade school children and to compare the differences between reading comprehension of a literary text from second half of the 20th century and understanding of a native speaker of the dialect. The results showed the children had more difficulties expressing themselves in written form than in oral one. During the reading of literary texts unrecognizing of foreign words (mostly archaisms) was present but the understanding of a text as a whole wasn’t absent. In conversation with a native speaker the children expressed for the most part an understanding of the dialect.
