Media are one of the most used learning support tools, and their use is increasing and will continue to increase in the future. For this reason, it is necessary to ensure proper use of the media. This paper´s goal was to provide a view of the media as learning support. The media, their history and types of media were firstly defined. The paper analyzed the ways media supports lifelong education with a focus on formal learning in primary education. Media influences were described, including both positive and negative influences. All this provided a foundation for identifying optimal ways to use media in learning, that ways were highlighted and further described. Internet and television have proven to be the optimal ways of using the media as learning support because they are comprehensive and cost effective. They are easily accessible and greatly assist in the learning and teaching process. It is important to point out that it is extremely important to study the various ways of using them and get to know their positive and negative sides, no matter what type of media it is. By exploring how to use the media and all the opportunities media gives them, teachers and others involved in passing knowledge improve their media literacy and by doing that they ensure that the teaching and learning process is maintained properly. Media literacy needs to be constantly upgraded as the media changes more and more every day.
