Abstract (english) According to the literature used in this paper, physical activity means any physical movement that activates muscle work and body movement. It is everyday and present in all forms and spheres of life, so we can say that individuals can be active throughout the day, in their workplace, through basic routines and certainly through leisure time, recreation and sports activities. The aim of this study was to quantitatively and qualitatively evaluate the physical activity of preschool children in leisure time, playing sports and parental involvement. Qualitative methods were conducted by researching the pedagogical and kinesiological literature, reviewing and comparing previous research conducted on this topic. Numerous studies have confirmed the same statistics concerning the benefits of physical activity for optimal development from an early age. Among the leading risk factors for mortality in the world, physical inactivity ranked fourth. The World Health Organization recommends a minimum of 60 minutes of physical activity for children between 5 and 17 years of age. The research conducted in this paper included 34 parents of children attending Markuševec Kindergarten in Zagreb. Respondents completed an anonymous questionnaire on the duration and types of leisure activities of their own children. The results of this study show that children spend most of their free time in active play, but immediately after that activity, passive play and watching television are the most common, which can have an adverse effect on the health and development of the child. The results showed high involvement of children in sports programs that are attended several times a week, and high involvement of parents in active leisure time with children. It is important to awaken awareness of the positive effects of physical activity on health, as well as the psychological, cognitive and social development of children. This paper provides a basis for upgrading knowledge and raising awareness of the importance of kinesiological content for preschool children. Quality content and the professional cooperation of educators and parents can influence the increase in physical activity in children, which ultimately aims to ensure the well-being of children.
