Motor skills can be described as a complex system that manifests itself in human movement. They are of great importance in everyday life. They appear when performing ordinary everyday activities, and mostly during physical exercise and sports (Badrić, 2011; according to Kovač, 1999). Changes in motor abilities occur from the beginning of their development, that is, since birth, all the way until old age. Their development is not always the same in girls and in boys, especially at a younger age (Badrić, 2011; according to Mišigoj-Duraković, 2008). In order to determine whether there are sex differences in motor abilities, a study was conducted on preschool children. Respondents who participated in the study were the preschool students of the kindergarten ‘’Cipelica’’ in Čakovec. The sample consisted of 26 preschool children of whom 16 were male and 10 female. The research was based on performing the following 7 tests of motor abilities assessment: long jump from a place, torso forward, rolling the ball with the hand, four-legged walking backwards, standing on one leg, steps to the side and body lift. This study showed that boys perform better in most tests. Tests in which boys achieved statistically significantly better results include the standing long jump, side steps, the obstacle course and ball rolling. Tests in which girls achieve better results than boys include the flexibility test, that is, the forward bow, as well as the balance test of standing on one leg. Boys achieved better results in the other tests, although the differences between their results and the girls’ results were not statistically significant.
