Abstract Fenomen dječje igre krajem 20. i početkom 21. stoljeća poprima oblik koji nikad ranije nije u povijesti viđen: igra digitalnim videoigrama. Rapidan razvoj industrije videoigara rezultirao je brojnim žanrovima, kategorijama, tematikama, mehanizmima i raznolikosti videoigara na tržištu; čak i za najmlađe igrače. Djeca vole igrati videoigre zbog njihove interaktivnosti i trenutačnih, čestih i jasnih povratnih informacija. S druge strane, brojna istraživanja potvrđuju kako videoigre kod djece mogu razvijati okulomotoriku, logičko, hipotetsko i asocijativno razmišljanje, upornost, usredotočenost, itd.
Abstract (english) The phenomenon of child’s play in the late 20th and early 21st centuries took shape of a form never seen before in history: playing digital video games. The rapid development of the video game industry has resulted in a numerous of genres, categories, themes, mechanisms, and diversities of the video games available on the market; even for the youngest players. Kids love playing video games because of their interactivity and instant, frequent, and clear feedback. Therefore, there is a need for tools like PEGI which helps adults choose video games for children. Due to the great interest of the public, there is also a need for scientific research that will provide an answer to how playing video games affects children. The scientific community and numerous experts most often point out that there are risks and dangers of creating addiction or developing aggressive patterns of behavior. New research also suggests a potential negative impact on speech development. On the other hand, numerous studies confirm that playing video games can contribute to oculomotor development, logical, hypothetical and associative thinking, persistence, focus, etc. In addition to educational video games, a significant positive contribution was found in simulation games for social and emotional development. Experts cite the positive aspects of video games as impartiality in scoring and rewarding, as well as the player's ability to try to master the level as many times as he/she needs to. Because of these features, practitioners saw the potential for introducing video games as a methodological tool in their educational work. Research conducted in kindergartens where video games were used gave positive results on tests of vocabulary and pre-mathematical skills. However, video games can also be used in kindergartens as pre-activities and introduction for central activities, guided by the interest of children.
