Abstract
Teachers of English as a foreign language use different teaching strategies to contribute to the development of learners’ positive attitudes towards the language and their future learning success. Using authentic literature in teaching has proven to be useful in creating context especially with young learners. Including picturebooks as a teaching resource in foreign language classroom has many benefits in the learning process and development of creative and critical thinking. This thesis integrates curriculum guidelines for fourth grade and project work based on an authentic picturebook. Teaching English to young learners using the picturebook Wolves by Emily Gravett is further developed into project work that includes topics from other school subjects, based on curriculum guidelines. The project idea focuses on achieving learning aims and outcomes through activities from different subjects.
Abstract (croatian)
Učitelji engleskog kao stranog jezika koriste se različitim metodama poučavanja kako bi doprinijeli razvoju pozitivnog stava kod učenika te njihovom uspjehu u učenju jezika. Korištenje izvornih tekstova u poučavanju engleskoga kao stranog jezika pokazalo se korisnim za prikazivanje i stvaranje konteksta posebice za niže razrede osnovne škole, odnosno u razrednoj nastavi, u dobi od sedam do deset godina. Upotreba slikovnica u poučavanju ima mnogih prednosti koje se odnose na sami proces učenja, ali i razvoj kreativnog i kritičkog mišljenja. Ovaj rad objedinjuje kurikulom propisane smjernice za poučavanje nastavnih predmeta u četvrtom razredu osnovne škole i projektnu nastavu temeljenu na izvornoj slikovnici na engleskom jeziku. U radu je na primjeru slikovnice Wolves Emily Gravett prikazano poučavanje stranoga jezika u četvrtom razredu osnovne škole i integracija s ostalim nastavnim predmetima u projektnu nastavu temeljenu na kurikulskim smjernicama. Ideja projekta usmjerena je na ostvarivanje kurikulom predviđenih ishoda kroz aktivnosti iz različitih predmeta.
