Abstract (english) The goal of this final paper was to investigate whether there is a difference in emotion regulation between children involved in sports training and non-athletic children, as well as to determine how they cope with everyday situations, react to specific situations and stimuli, fit into their environment and whether they are more or less socially oriented.
In today's world there are fewer and fewer people, including children, involved in any form of sports and training, resulting in very poor and unhealthy lifestyle, improper and unbalanced nutrition, exhaustion, fatigue, disinterest and poor emotional well-being. The study was conducted on two groups of children, with 12 athlete children in the first group and 12 non-athlete children in the second group. The research was conducted through a survey method. The survey consisted of 46 questions that could be answered with either true or false responses. To determine whether certain frequencies deviated from the expected or from the hypothesis the chi-square test was used, which found that athletes have a harder time moving on from and forgetting things and situations that upset them and they do not easily forget people who have somehow hurt, offended, angered or saddenden them. This means that they think more about decisions, situations and consequences and they are more cautious in their relationships with other people, so athletes will need more time to build trust, belief and affection towards certain individuals or situations. However, the survey showed that empathy towards others is expressed in athletes in a hundred percent form while non-athletes tend to lack empathy towards others. This does not necessarly mean that non-athlete children are less empathetic, considerate or sensitive towards others, but this response likely refers to the fact that athletes are more engaged in the process of winning and losing thus the degree of empathy is more pronounced in them.
Thanks to this survery, we can gain a much more successfully and efficient understanding of how sports and training impact children's emotion regulation and what the positive aspects of children's involvement in any form of exercise are.
