With the modern way of life, parents are becoming more and more aware of how important physical activity and sports are in their child's life. Despite this, there are still parents who think that sports are not important and never encourage their child to do them. Because of this, basic motor skills+ are compromised, which will affect children and their body and organism when they grow into adults. The aim of this paper is to determine whether and what are the differences in the motor skills of children who are athletes and non-athletes in preschool age. 15 child athletes and 15 non-athletes between the ages of 5 and 7 took part in the research. The research was conducted in the Pingvin kindergarten. In children, six motor abilities were measured and examined through various tests and assessments, namely: flexibility, speed of movement, repetitive and explosive strength, coordination and balance. The paper explains motor skills and how physical activity affects the growth and development of a child. It was explained how children in preschool age experience sports and what is important to know about children at that age in order to provide them with adequate physical activity or to encourage them to play sports. The results of the research showed that in statistics there is no significant difference between children who go to sports several times a week and those who do not. Children in preschool age see sports as a game and play them casually, therefore they are not yet able to achieve significantly higher results than children who do not play sports in their free time. The results were influenced by the small number of respondents and some physical characteristics.
