The preschool period is a time of rapid growth and development of children. In order to be able to observe certain deviations, it is necessary to carry out regualar morphological measurements in order to react properly and on time. Nowadays, unfortunately, many children and young people have problems with overweight and even obesity, and the cause of this is a sedentary lifestyle, lack of physical activity, poor nutrition and so on. The aim of this research is to establish whether there are certain differences in morphological characteristics between girls and boys of preschool age. In this research participated 38 childreen (21 boys and 17 girls) between the age of 5 and 7 from the kindergarten „Jordanovac“ in Zagreb. To assess morphological characteristics, seven anthropometric measures were applied: body height, body weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, triceps skinfold, abdominal skinfold and back skinfold, and the WHR index and body fat percentage were calculated. Descriptive statistics and t-test analysis were used for data processing. The results of the research showed that there are statistically significant differences in the variables of body height and body weight between girls and boys. Boys are taller and heavier than girls, while no significant differences were observed in other variables. It is very important that morphological measurements of children are carried out regularly in order to have insight into their growth and development and to spot certain deviations in a timely manner.
