Nutrition is one of the key factors for the proper growth and development of a child. Adequate nutrition changes according to the age of the child and is an important element in preventing the development of diseases, especially chronic ones. Accordingly, parents and the child's social environment must constantly work to improve the environment in order to encourage optimal nutrition. Namely, the timely establishment of eating habits has a great impact on the prevention of risk factors for the development of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases. Also, the early establishment and definition of eating habits affect the life habits of adulthood. The timely introduction of solid food during infancy can have numerous potential benefits for the child's development, both motor and proper development of speech and eating habits in the later stages of the child's development. Also, with solid food, infants receive additional nutrients that are not available in mother's milk. In order to prepare the final paper, a survey was conducted on the importance of solid food for children's development among the parents of the Kindergarten Kesten. The aim of the research is to determine the parents' opinion about the awareness of the timely introduction of solid food into the children's diet and to determine how the parents of infants assess their child's readiness for the introduction of solid food. The results of the research indicated a great awareness of parents about the numerous advantages and importance of the timely introduction of solid food into the child's diet. Likewise, the results indicated that most parents believe that one of the first signs of a child's readiness to introduce solid food is the ability to pick up food and try to put it in the mouth. Most parents do not consider that the premature introduction of solid food increases the risks of developing allergies, obesity, diabetes and celiac disease.
