Children`s play is a basic, vital need that allows a child to explore the world around him from an early age. By playing, children develop social skills, solve problems and strengthen their self-confidence, which affects their overall development. Given that play has a significant role in encouraging creativity and developing self confidence, it is important that adults support and encourage it. We know four types of play: functional, constructive, symbolic, and play with rules. Symbolic play, which develops around 18 months of age, involves using objects, actions or ideas to represent other things. This type of play allows children to use their imagination and creativity and to explore different roles and scenarios. Symbolic play develops through several stages, becoming increasingly complex as children acquire the ability to replace real objects with symbols and assume different roles. Educators play a significant role in the development of symbolic play by providing support and participating in the game in a way that meets the needs of the child. Proper involvement in the game and interactions of educators with children can significantly affect the complexity and development of symbolic play, while too much control can interrupt spontaneity and play itself. In addition, the educator is responsible for the spatial and material environment that enables children to explore, learn and develop. The space should be safe, stimulating and well equipped with materials that match children`s interests. In educational institutions, symbolic play with dolls is often observed, which allows even timid children to express themselves and communicate more easily and develop social skills.
