This paper seeks to explain the phenomena of digital media and their implementation into the subject of Science and Social Studies teaching in schools. Positive aspects, resulted by usage of digital media at Science and Social Studies teaching are being observed, as well as threads and dangers that could occur during their usage in school. Ideas for teaching activities supported by digital media adopted and used by teachers during Science and Social Studies teaching, depending on their opportunities, are also being described. For this paper, the research with the goal of determination of teachers' opinion about usage of digital media in Science and Social Studies teaching as well as its possibilities, frequency and methods of its appliance was conducted. The research engaged 123 elementary school teachers from Republic of Croatia through questionnaire. Results showed that, in general, elementary school teachers show positive attitude towards appliance of digital media in Science and Social Studies teaching and that they partially agree with positive impacts digital media have on students and their working habits. The vast majority of teachers questioned have a possibility to use at least one digital medium with Internet access and they also assert using digital media during Science and Social Studies teaching. Although the majority of teachers apply digital media during teaching, results also show that their appliance is very simple and that they often use only Internet browsers and Power Point Presentations. Results conducted during this research, furthermore, initiate the need for additional education in field of contemporary usage of digital media in teaching for elementary school teachers.
