The contemporary methodical approach to initial reading and writing using the digital beginner book in Croatian language is based on theoretical considerations and research carried out in this paper. The aim is to show how the learner can learn to read and write using a digital beginner book throughout a modern methodical approach, and it is important to emphasize that the role of a teacher in such a learning process is not diminished. Digital beginner book tools enable students to engage in diverse activities to make learning of the initial reading and writing more effective and interesting. The research refers to an interview with the editor of the „P kao početnica" published by Profile Klett - mag. prim. educ. Gordanom Ivančić. The aim of the research was to highlight the elements of the digital beginner book and their influence on the students, or to indicate that the digital version of the beginner book „P kao početnica" can improve their existing results in learning the initial reading and writing. The information gathered in the interview was used to identify the advantages of a digital beginner book in relation to a printed one. Based on an interview analysis, it can be concluded that the digital version of „Početnica” enables the implementation of methodical activities during the teaching of initial reading and writing that cannot be carried out only with the printed form of the beginner, and are useful for a student, his intellectual and emotional abilities and his motivation. During the use of the digital version of „Početnica”, the student is involved in all basic language activities – language production and language reception.
