The goal of this research was to examine the differences in psychological well-being between male and female students with regard to the attachment styles to the mother and father. In addition, gender differences in the psychological well-being of students and differences in the prevalence of different attachment styles to mother and father were examined. It was expected that male and female students who have a secure attachment style to mother and father would report higher levels of psychological well-being than insecurely attached students. It was expected that most students would have a secure attachment style compared to insecure attachment styles to both parents. The sample comprised 444 Croatian college students (56,8% girls). The measures used for attachment style to parents were the Modified version of Brennan's Experiences in Close Relationships Inventory (Kamenov and Jelić, 2003), separately for ratings of attachment to mother and attachment to father, and for psychological well-being the Scales of Psychological Well-Being (SPWB - Ryff, 1989; Ryff and Keyes, 1995) was used. The data was collected online. The statistical analyses showed a significant difference in psychological well-being with regard to attachment styles to mother and father. Students who have a secure attachment style to mother and father reported higher levels of psychological well-being compared to those who were insecurely attached to both parents. There was no significant difference between male and female students in psychological well-being. Gender differences in the prevalence of attachment styles to both parents were not found, but the results show that more students have a secure attachment style with both parents than insecure attachment styles.
