Technology Device Interference Scale; McDaniel i Coyne, 2014), Skala ometanja tehnologijom u životnim situacijama (engl. Technology Interference in Life Examples Scale; McDaniel i Coyne, 2016) i Skala partnerova odbijanja mobilnim uređajem (engl. The Partner Phubbing Scale; Roberts i David, 2016).
Abstract (english) Research shows that digital technology is increasingly present in Western societies and that most adults and young people own a mobile phone, laptop, or tablet (Brenner and Smith, 2013). The reason for this is that digital technology offers its users an opportunity to have fun, to work, for leisure and to connect with relevant people. Most people say that they could not live without digital technology because of the previously mentioned reasons, which indicates that more and more people are becoming addicted to it. One of the main issues that scientists emphasize regarding this matter is the impact of digital technology on the quality of social interaction. Since marriage is the most important social community, the goal of this research is to examine the correlation between technology interference, intimacy, and marital satisfaction. Three questionnaires were used to measure technology interference: Technology Device Interference Scale (McDaniel and Coyne, 2014), Technology Interference in Life Examples Scale (McDaniel and Coyne, 2016), and The Partner Phubbing Scale (Roberts and David, 2016). Two questionnaires were used to measure intimacy: Perception of Sexual Relations Quality Scale (Ćubela Adorić and Jurević, 2006, as cited in Jurević, 2007) and Sternberg’s Triangular Love Scale (Sternberg, 1997, as cited in Pranjić, 2014). Finally, the Quality Marriage Index – QMI (Norton, 1983) was used to measure marital satisfaction. For this research, questionnaires were designed to measure sociodemographic characteristics of participants and the amount of time spent using digital technology. The sample comprised 535 participants (118 married men and 417 married women). The results show that there is a significantly negative correlation of technology interference with intimacy and marital satisfaction. In other words, higher technology interference was related with lower intimacy and marital satisfaction. Mediation analyses were conducted using Process macro program for SPSS (Hayes, 2012) to test the mediating effect of intimacy on the relationship between technology interference and marital satisfaction. The results of the conducted mediation analyses confirm the proposed mediation effect of intimacy in the relationship between technoference and marital satisfaction.
