Abstract Temeljni koncept ovoga diplomskoga rada jest transhumanizam koji propagira tehno-znanstveno nadilaženje ljudskih ograničenja te pojačavanje njegovih ukupnih sposobnosti poput fizičkoga poboljšanja, kognitivnoga poboljšanja, poboljšanja raspoloženja, produživanja životnog vijeka.
Abstract (english) The basic concept of this thesis is transhumanism, which promotes techno-scientific overcoming of human limitations and strengthening its overall abilities such as physical improvement, cognitive improvement, mood improvement, life expectancy. Bearing in mind that the very idea of human improvement is not new, the paper theoretically analyzes transhumanism within a contemporary or (post) modern context whose fluidity is characterized by understanding human or his body and consciousness in the practical framework of technology, economics and science. One of the conceptions of the advanced man inherent in transhumanism is the cyborg - a combination of organic and inorganic, physical and technological. Opposition to such views is represented by bioconservatism, which emphasizes the problem of encroaching on human nature, warning of potential harmful and adverse consequences for man, society and the entire planet.
The topic of transhumanism was empirically researched at the level of the attitudes of students at the Universities of Zagreb (N = 226) using the online survey questionnaire conducted during July and August 2021 with adherence to ethical research principles. The general hypothesis indicated the respondents' familiarity with the basic concepts and practices of transhumanism, while other hypotheses were analyzed within the model of religiosity, worldview model, study area model and model of acceptance of new technologies. The results of the research showed that the students mostly know the basic concepts and practices of transhumanism and that there are statistically significant deviations within the tested models in such a way that religious and conservative respondents and those prone to less acceptance of new technologies agree less with transhumanist theory and practice than non-religious ones, liberal respondents and those more inclined to accept new technologies.
This paper deepens the less researched topic of transhumanism in the Croatian context through operationalizations at the level of theory and practice as a more active step in the form of interest in the use of transhuman technology. Through the student's approach to the concept of homo cyborg, it is possible to predict further social approach to the transhumanist vision of an improved man and society.
