sposobnost prepoznavanja emocija mogu utjecati razni grupni i individualni čimbenici, poput
Infant Faces Database (TIF) (Maack i sur., 2017).
diskriminantna osjetljivost baze. Sudjelovalo je 343 sudionika ocjenjivanjem slika dojenčadi iz
baze TIF i rješavanjem upitnika emocionalne kompetentnosti (UEK-45), aleksitimije (TAS-20)
Abstract (english) One of the most important tools in social interaction is the human face. Facial
expressions of emotions are vital for developing social relationships, especially in nonverbal
infants. An infant and his caregiver are a part of a communication system in which the infant
depends on his own capability to express emotions as well as on the emotion recognition
ability of the caregiver. Emotion recognition ability can be affected by various factors, such as
culture, gender, emotional competence, empathy, or alexithymia. To examine the impact of
these factors and the infant-caregiver relationship, we need to use validated infant faces
databases. There are a few such databases available to researchers, one of which is the Tromso
Infant Faces Database (TIF) (Maack et al., 2017). Thus, the aim of this thesis was to validate
this database on a Croatian sample. The convergent validity, discriminant sensitivity and
emotion recognition accuracy were examined. The study included 343 participants, who rated
the images in the TIF database and completed the emotional competence (UEK-45),
alexithymia (TAS-20) and empathy (E- questionnaire) questionnaires. Out of 119 images, 60
of them showed cross-cultural validity, but there was no significant difference in accuracy
between cultures. Out of all questionnaires, only a weak positive correlation with the database
was found for empathy, implying weak convergent validity. Examination of discriminant
sensitivity using gender as the main variable showed that women are significantly more
accurate in emotion recognition than men. Also, women rated infant expressions more
intensely. Thus, the sensitivity of the database appears to be good. The set of 60 images is
recommended for further use, but validation in different cultures is also needed.
