Abstract Prijateljski odnosi predstavljaju jedan od ključnih aspekata naših života i zadovoljavaju našu potrebu za socijalnom integracijom.
Abstract (english) Friendly relationships represent one of the key aspects of our lives and satisfy our need for social integration. According to the theory of interdependence, individuals in interpersonal relationships inevitably influence each other. Maintaining satisfying relationships with friends is an important part of life satisfaction. Manipulation refers to how people intentionally try to change the behavior of others. Given that manipulative tactics have been less researched in friendships than in other relationships, and given their importance on the psychological well-being of an individual, this research aimed to examine the connection between the use of manipulation tactics and friendship satisfaction and tendencies towards short-term and long-term friendships. Furthermore, we wanted to examine gender differences in the use of manipulation tactics in the context of friendships. 241 participants took part in the research. For testing our hypotheses we used correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis and t-test. The measuring instruments we used were the Modified Tactics of Manipulation Scale by Buss (1992; according to Opat Jozić and Ombla, 2019), the Scale for measuring tendencies towards short-term/long-term friendships created for this research, a sociodemographic data questionnaire and a particle for examining friendship satisfaction. The results showed that there is no connection between specific manipulation tactics and manipulation tactics in general with friendship satisfaction. It was found that the tendency for short-term friendship is positively related to indirect coercive tactics, hiding of emotions and manipulation tactics in general. The analysis of the collected data showed that the tendency for long-term friendships is positively related to direct tactics of manipulation. In the end, it was found that men use manipulation tactics in general and specific indirect tactics for coercion and hiding of emotions significantly more than women. No differences were found between men and women in the use of direct manipulation tactics.
