Abstract | U teoretskom dijelu rada istražuje se rast i povezanost narcisoidnosti i popularnosti
danas sveprisutni mediji upravo ohrabruju takvo ponašanje.
daje priliku postići baš to, samostalno režirajući svoje virtualne živote.
vlastite iskrivljene stvarnosti. |
Abstract (english) | The theoretical part in this paper explores the growth and connection between
narcissism and the popularity of social networks, especially Instagram, the fastest growing
social network in the world.
The second chapter analyzes the notion and aspects of personality, and in the third,
narcissism as a state of self-infatuation, where it is found that persons suffering from the
disorder are characterized by a grandiose view of themselves, a lack of empathy, as well as
a constant need for attention. Narcissistic personality disorder existed long before
Instagram and social networks, but omnipresent media today is encouraging such behavior.
Chapters 4 and 5 show how in the 21st century a person does not seem to exist if he or
she is not present on social networks. They influence the formation of individuals' attitudes
and opinions and promote unrealizable idealized beauty standards. There is a need to stand
out just to get as many views as possible, and Instagram gives average people the
opportunity to achieve just that, by directing their virtual lives by themselves. It allows
everyone to look better, younger and more attractive than in reality. Narcissus, whose characteristic is grandiose self-representation, finds it extremely important to look perfect
on his or her’s social media photographs and they tend to do their best to bring the photos
to perfection, even by digitally modifying their bodies in the hope of concealing her
imperfections.
In the research conducted, using the Narcissistic Personality Inventory, it was
examined whether the overwhelming number of Instagram users possess the characteristics
of a typical narcissistic personality disorder. The results confirmed three of the five
hypotheses. It has been found that female Instagram users post more photos of themselves
than men do, and that most Instagram users find narcissistic behavior visible on this social
network. There was also a significant positive association between time spent on Instagram
and narcissistic behavior. A stronger correlation between the intensity of Instagram use and
narcissism has not been confirmed, nor has the hypothesis of consciously posting its own
distorted reality. |
