Abstract Ovaj rad baviti će se tehnologijom tradicionalne polimentne pozlate uz primjer
poliranje.
i objasniti postupak.
ulozi kroz povijest i također bolje saznanje o pristupu oštećenjima i njihovom tretiranju
na polimentnoj pozlati.
Abstract (english) This paper deals with the technology of traditional polyment gilding with an
example of the practical work of the conservation-restoration procedure on wooden
gilded altar candle holders that are owned by the Croatian Academy of Sciences and
Arts. The theoretical part of the paper will cover the development of altar candle holders
throughout history, as well as stylistic elements and their characteristics. The materials
used in the production of the putty-chalk base and polyment, as well as their treatment,
will be described. The gilding and polishing process will also be described.
There will be a better understanding of wood as a material, its composition, how it
reacts to moisture and how to use it properly for the best results. All parts of the candle
holders, their purpose and the role of the candlestick throughout history and religion
will be recognizable. Variations of traditional polyment gilding will be described, as well
as their role in restoration. The gilding process will be described in detail, all the tools
needed will be listed and their function will be explained. The use of the final coating
for gilding with gold leaves and gilding with imitation gold leaves will be explained.
Various methods of gold patination will be listed and the process explained.Various
decorative techniques on gilding will be demonstrated, and their process and tools
used for the obtained effect will be described.
In the practical part of the work, the individual work steps are described in detail and
illustrated with examples to enable a better understanding of all the work steps.
The aim of this thesis is to gain a better understanding of the demanding process of
traditional polyment gilding and to understand the importance of all the steps in the
whole gilding process and all the steps afterwards, to deepen the knowledge of altar
candle sticks, their appearance and their role throughout history and also to gain a
better knowledge of the procedure for damage and its treatment on polyment gilding.
