Abstract (english) Senile macular degeneration (SMD) is a disease that occurs in the area of macula lutea, in the most developed part of the retina. The disease results in loss of vision or visual acuity. The aim of this research was to show the number of intravitreal injections of total applied patients over a ten year time period and the impact and benefits of the teraphy on the health of patients. The research was done retrospectively from the Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry of the General Hospital of Dubrovnik. All the patients were analyzed who, in the period from 8 September 2007 to 31 December 2016, were diagnosed with wet SMD and who received anti VEGF (anti vascular endothelial growth factor) intravitreal. All the patients had a complete ophthalmic examination: visual acuity; biomicroscopic examination; aplanatic tonometry; dilated fundus examination on biomicroscop and fluorescein angiography. In the General Hospital of Dubrovnik in the treatment of SMD intravitreal application of anti VEGF, 153 eyes were treated in 141 patients. A total of 360 injections were given and the number of injections per year ranged from 2 injections in 2007 to 99 injections in 2016. The number of injections in the same eye ranged from one to nine, median two injections. Bilateral application had 14 persons, of whom 58% were women. There was no statistically significant difference between left and right eye. The youngest age was 55 years and the oldest 91 years. At the age of 70 to 90 years there were 78% of people, where on average women were somewhat older than men, but the difference was not statistically significant. The mean visual acuity value before therapy was 0.16 and after therapy 0.25. The most common comorbidity was hypertension, in 67% of cases. Complications occurred rarely, only after 5% of injections, and the most common one was suffusion.
