Abstract (english) Health care in the postpartum period of woman begins in maternity hospital after maternity birth, and includes check-up after childbirth and when leaving the maternity hospital, check-ups after six-week, surveillance of the puerperae with home care, and education and health care of puerperae. In postpartum care, the role of the patron sister is very important, whose key tasks are controling and monitoring of physiological events of women and newborn child and satisfying the educational needs of women and families after childbirth. This is the key role of a patron sister, who through her empathy approach and by providing help and support to the mother helps in successfully overcoming these problems. During this paper, research was conducted through Google Docs questionnaire with 12 questions and offered answers (Attachment 1). 1832 mothers participated in the research. Questionnaire was published on website of Roda association and on Mama&Beba magazine’s website. The goal of this paper was to examine mothers about postpartum period and to find out whether they were preparing for motherhood through pregnancy courses, whether they made „skin on skin“ contact and first breastfeed with the child, whether the personnel in maternity hospital and patronage service was helpful and whether they had any problems during the puerperal. Research has shown that more than 50% of examined mothers had some a problem during the puerperal, while 22.1% of mothers had some kind of the psychological changes. It is very important to do breastfeeding education and to help with the proper placing of the baby on the breast to initiate the lactation process as soon as possible. 43.3% of mothers involved in the study had problems with breastfeeding.
