Abstract Pretilost je jedan od najbrže rastućih javno – zdravstvenih problema današnjice, prvenstveno zahvaljujući sjedilačkom načinu života.
Abstract (english) Obesity is one of the fastest growing public health problems today, primarily due to a sedentary lifestyle. The World Health Organization estimates that 1,9 billion people worldwide are obese. Obese people, in addition to the difficulties associated with the primary disease, are faced with various morbidities which, regardless of whether the person has lost weight, leave long-term consequences on the body. In the elderly, they contribute to the health deficit for years, and if we add obesity to that, more serious and complicated diseases will occur. Obesity in the elderly not only affects physical activity and cardiovascular structure, but also other diseases such as sarcopenia, diabetes, respiratory problems ... It is interesting that in some situations, obesity in the elderly has its positive effects. Nurses, along with physicians and nutritionists, are an integral part of a multidisciplinary team involved in the treatment and prevention of obese individuals. The main task of the nurse, in the process of health care, is to educate about obesity and encourage the patient through the process of losing weight. The nurse also uses knowledge and experience to make timely planned health care and thus improve a person’s recovery, make hospital time more enjoyable and raise a patient’s quality of life.
