Abstract Fizikalna rehabilitacija pruža usluge ljudima u svrhu održavanja, razvijanja i obnavljanja maksimalne funkcionalne pokretljivosti te funkcionalne sposobnosti u svim životnim skupinama. Učestalost intrahospitalnih infekcija ovise o nizu faktora. Njihova pojava mijenja ishod i tijek osnovnog oboljenja.
Abstract (english) Physical rehabilitation provides services to people in order to maintain, develop and restore maximum functional mobility and functional abilities in all life groups. Physiotherapy rehabilitation deals with recognizing and increasing the functional ability of users and increasing movement in order to improve health and prevent disease – but in this process there is a risk of infection. Nosocomial infection can occur in sporadic, epidemic and endemic forms. Nosocomial infection can be determined on the basis of symptoms, but subsequently microbiological and laboratory tests are pursued and other epidemiological data are taken into account. The frequency of nosocomial infections depends on a myriad of of factors. Their appearance changes the outcome and course of the underlying disease. They can increase morbidity and mortality, prolong treatment time and significantly increase material costs. Hence, the prevention of nosocomial infections is of utmost importance.
As an integral part of this thesis, a survey was conducted using the Google Forms in the period from April 15 to May 15, 2021 through a structured survey questionnaire entitled "Knowledge of physiotherapy students about healthcare-associated infections". Students were selected by convenience sampling approach. A pre-designed questionnaire was given to each student who opted to participate voluntarily. The questionnaire consisted of 17 questions and consisted of two parts. The first part collected demographic data of students (gender, age, direction of high school, current year of study and information on whether the participant works in the physical therapy field), and the second part assessed whether students are sufficiently informed about the infection, as well as on their suppression.
Of the surveyed students, most of the participants attended 3rd year undergraduate study programme (55 of them), followed by 30 of them from the 1st year of undergraduate study and 16 students from the 2nd year of undergraduate physiotherapy study programme. Most of the students surveyed were female, and also most did not work in the profession yet. Most respondents believe that they are not well informed about infections, and for the majority the most frequent source of information on this topic was the Internet. The study also showed lack of knowledge in certain segments regarding the definition of nosocomial infections, especially in specific physiotherapy care in intensive care units during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Health education of young people is aimed not only at increasing their knowledge, but also at providing support and developing the social skills needed to avoid risky behaviour. Thus, tt is necessary to educate all medical professionals about possible ways of infection. Education should start from high school and continue more intensively at colleges. More and more students are coming from non-specialized high schools and are, therefore, not so informed about infections. This research demonstrated that students are not how to answer very simple questions, precisely because they are not educated enough.
