Abstract (english) Introduction: Health inequalities, present between different strata of society or individuals, arise from structured social inequalities and are the result of social stratification. Inequalities in socioeconomic status are at the root of health inequalities. The COVID-19 disease epidemic has caused a number of negative consequences for the health of the world’s population, as well as significant global social and economic difficulties.
Methods: For the purposes of this thesis, a study was conducted to determine the impact of the COVID-19 disease epidemic on the socioeconomic status and health of individuals. The survey was conducted using an anonymous survey questionnaire available on social media in the form of a Google form in the period from May to July 2021. The survey involved 433 participants, members of the general population, with an average age between 21-30 years of age. The questionnaire examined the sociodemographic characteristics of the participants, the socioeconomic characteristics of the participants such as education level, employment status, monthly income per household member and additional aspects related to changes in socioeconomic status caused by the COVID-19 epidemic.
Results: The results in this thesis did not show a statistically significant impact of the epidemic on the economic status of survey participants, while the impact of the epidemic was reflected in changes in perceived general health before and during the epidemic. The quality and availability of health services during the epidemic were rated worse. A statistically significant correlation was obtained between the level of education, healthy diet and exercise, as well as the correlation between the average monthly income per household member and the assessment of the general level of health.
Conclusion: The epidemic of the COVID-19 disease is the cause of the global health and socio-economic crisis that the world's population will fight in the coming years. As a global public health problem, the COVID-19 disease epidemic is an opportunity to highlight the roles of masters of nursing in the management and organization of individual parts of the health system, human resource and resource management, and preventive action to maintain community health.
