Abstract Bubrezi predstavljaju vitalne organe čovjeka čija je zadaća osim stvaranja mokraće, regulacija
Osim psihičke pripreme i edukacije sestra
obavlja i fizičku pripremu bolesnika za postavljanje katetera te kasnije provodi njegu katetera i educira
bolesnika o rukovanju s kateterom.
Abstract (english) Kidneys are vital organs whose task, in addition to creating urine, is acidity regulation,
elimination of waste products from the body and hormone secretion. Chronic kidney disease is a
condition that interferes with kidney function which ultimately leads to their failure. Chronic renal
failure is a condition characterized by irreversible impairment of renal function that requires specific
therapy such as kidney transplantation, hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. Peritoneal dialysis is a
method whose task is to replace renal function, and is based on the transfer of substances and water
across the peritoneal membrane that divides two fluid-filled spaces. Although it represents quality and
cost-effective method of treatment, it is still not sufficiently represented. The main role of peritoneal
dialysis is to remove harmful products from the blood. There are two basic types of peritoneal dialysis,
and they include continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis and automated peritoneal dialysis. In order
to avoid possible complications during treatment, quality patient education by a highly educated nurse
/ technician is extremely important. Education needs to start as soon as possible in order to prepare
patients and to achieve best results. To avoid complications such as fear and depression, constant
motivation and supervision of the patient is required. In addition to mental preparation and education,
nurses also perform physical preparation of the patient for catheter placement, and later does catheter
care and educates the patient on catheter handling. Since peritoneal dialysis care is demanding, it is
necessary to encourage the patient to cooperate and also to educate family members so that they are
involved in patient care and to preserve the quality of life. The aim of this study was to describe
peritoneal dialysis and causes that lead to treatment, the importance of nurses / technicians in
conducting peritoneal dialysis, what is their role in patient care, the purpose of education and
presentation of health care plans for patients on peritoneal dialysis.
