This paper deals with the topic of product design with a new approach to product design. The work itself follows the making of a bionic fist using one of the newer approaches to design, and that is generative design. CAD software packages SOLIDWORKS and FUSION 360 were used to create the paper. At the beginning of the paper, the history of CAD software development was described. In continuation are the methods of approach to product design and prototype modeling. The next chapter is based on the description of additive technologies because the work aims to create a functional prototype model using them. One chapter is devoted to the description of biomechanics as a science, and to the description of some of the biomechanical measurement procedures that could be used in the construction of a bionic hand. The main part of the paper consists of a description of the basic commands and the creation of a prototype 3D model within the SOLIDWORKS software environment with an emphasis on the generative design process within the FUSION 360 software environment. At the end of the paper, the analysis is done on the parts of the model after the generative design procedure on the model. The development of the model and the making of the model with one of the additive technologies are described. After the analysis and making of the model, the conclusion is made.
