Abstract Poremećaji autističnog spektra su neurorazvojni poremećaji rane životne dobi čije su glavne karakteristike oštećenje razvojnog područja socijalnih odnosa i otežano komuniciranje s okolinom.
Abstract (english) Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are neurodevelopmental disorders of early age with main characteristics such as damaged social relations and difficulties in communication. Based on DSM-IV classification, Autism Spectrum Disorders include Autistic Disorder, Rett Syndrome, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder, Asperger Syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Disorder – Not Otherwise Specified. Diagnosing the child is a common problem for the rest of the family, most often because of poorly provided emotional support from closest people. Following the difficult acceptance of a diagnosis and fear for the child's future, the family is oftentimes isolated from it's environment. Because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, changes in everyday functioning affected all people same as people with ASD, making their condition even worse. Support from the health professionals is as important as mutual cooperation with the family in times of need.
The aim of this work is to show the way health professionals operate with individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as their own general functioning. Research is evaluating the influence of this pandemic on children and their families, including changes in their health, educational and psychosocial problems. The study was conducted from September to October 2021. Containing a questionnaire with 25 questions, the goal was for parents to evaluate the quality of life of their children during the pandemic. In total, 31 parents participated in the study. The conclusion made by evaluating their answers is the following: parents state that quality of life is average and better among children attending modified class programs than children attending kindergarten. There is no statistically significant difference in the quality of children's lives according to their parents' opportunities, for example, being able to work from home. The majority of examined people said that they had to increase the time spent with children, helping with their homework because of online teaching classrooms. In conclusion, the pandemic caused increased needs for parents' engagement with their children.
