Abstract (english) Multiple sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune disease of the central nervous system, which is manifested by the deterioration of the myelin sheath on the nerve cell. Decay of the myelin sheath leads to the cessation of proper transmission of impulses between nerve cells. Mulitpla sclerosis is an idiopathic disease, more precisely, the cause of the disease itself is unknown, but it is assumed that the disease is transmitted genetically or by a survivor of the inflammatory disease of the central nervous system. In most patients, the first signs of the disease occur between the ages of 20 and 50, and as many as three times more often women get sick.Multiple sclerosis manifests itself through two stages. The exacerbation phase is the condition when symptoms of the disease appear and the general condition of the patient is very bad. The stage of remission is a condition when the disease idles, more precisely, when there are no symptoms of the disease. Symptoms depend on damage to the myelin sheath, and most often there are disturbances in the motor system, disturbances in urination, tingling along one side of the body, reduced balance and spasticity. The causes of the occurrence are genetic preference, autoimmune reaction and the influence of external factors such as fatigue and stress. Drugs and kinesitherapy procedures that relieve spasticity (anxiolytics and physical therapy), relieve fatigue and malaise, reduce pain with painkillers and stimulate the activity of the whole body are greatly assisted in the treatment of symptoms of the disease. In the treatment of people for multiple sclerosis, an important role is played by a physiotherapist who must make a plan and program of exercises and spend time with each patient separately because the approach to the affected persons is individual. Family education about the disease and how best to help a person in a state of exacerbation contributes to great importance.
