Infekcije oka i okolnih područja
Abstract (english) The lens of the eye can become cloudy, and this condition is called a cataract, and it leads to
blurred vision or complete vision loss. Cataract affects more and more people around the world
every year. This is the most common pathology that brings the patient to the operating room. In
adults, cataracts correspond to acquired clouding of the lens, which is most often associated with
aging. Apart from age, the most common causes are metabolic, although there are less common
etiologies, traumatic, iatrogenic and congenital. Cataracts can be treated surgically by breaking
the lens and removing pieces of it using a probe (a process called phacoemulsification), after
which an artificial lens is placed to restore vision. This surgical method is fast and recovery is
short, which is why such a procedure can be performed as a "day surgery", which means that
patients can come to the hospital on the day of the procedure, perform the procedure and then go
home. Infections of the eye and surrounding areas can increase the risk of complications during
cataract surgery. The infection is more likely to spread or worsen during surgery, which can lead
to serious problems and a prolonged recovery. Eye infections can adversely affect the eye's
ability to heal adequately after surgery, which can result in temporary or permanent vision loss
and can make it difficult to achieve optimal results from cataract surgery.
