Abstract (english) Nursing can be defined in various ways, as an occupation, a calling and a way of life. When taking into consideration all the values values of the nursing profession, one can say that nursing is a unique profession that activates the most beautiful human qualities, humanity, creativity and dedication to work in an individual. Education, not only in the field of biomedicine and healthcare, but also in the field of science and art, is an important factor in recognizing and meeting the needs of patients in all segments of health care. The aim of this study was to examine the attitudes of nurses at the level of the Republic of Croatia concerning the importance of the nursing profession, its development and advancement, and to obtain information about possible problems and difficulties in work that should be taken into consideration when finding the best possible solution. The study covered 201 participants, of which 189 (94%) were female, while only 12 (6%) were male. The importance of nursing and the progress and development of the nursing profession was recognized by the majority of participants in the study. 147 (73.5%) respondents believe that lifelong training is important in the nursing profession, and 137 (68.2%) respondents agreed with the assertion that the progress of the nursing profession does not jeopardize other members of the team. A pleasant working environment and the satisfaction of nurses at the workplace is an important factor that can affect the patient's satisfaction with their stay or the health care provided in any health or social institution. The source of damaged interpersonal relations and the emergence of conflicts is does not necessarily result from the concept of work itself, but often stems from underdeveloped communication skills, ignorance or lack of empathy.
