Abstract Električne cigarete, poznate i kao e-cigarete, postale su sve popularniji proizvod među mladima širom svijeta.
Abstract (english) Electronic cigarettes, also known as e-cigarettes, have become an increasingly popular product among young people worldwide. These devices are often promoted as a less harmful alternative to traditional cigarettes, and their use is rapidly spreading among adolescents, raising concerns among public health experts.
To gain a deeper understanding of this issue, a survey was conducted among high school students of legal age. The aim of the research was to determine the students' level of knowledge about e-cigarettes, their attitudes towards these products, and the prevalence of their use. The results of the study showed that most students have a moderate understanding of the potential health risks associated with e-cigarette use. While some students were aware that e-cigarettes contain nicotine, many were not familiar with the fact that using these products can lead to addiction, as well as potential long-term health consequences such as lung disease and cardiovascular problems.
Regarding students' attitudes toward e-cigarettes, the results revealed that they are often positive. A large number of students believe that e-cigarettes are less harmful than traditional cigarettes, a view that may be influenced by marketing strategies promoting e-cigarettes as a 'healthier' alternative. The research also uncovered that a significant percentage of students are already using or have used e-cigarettes.
Based on the results, it is clear that there is a need for enhanced education and preventive programs aimed at young people. These programs should focus on providing accurate information about the composition and effects of e-cigarettes, as well as debunking myths and misconceptions that are often spread among young people. Schools, as key institutions in educating the youth, should play a central role in these efforts, in collaboration with health experts and public health organizations.
