Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation in the central nervous system, leading to the destruction of the myelin sheath of nerve fibers. As a result, the transmission of nerve impulses is slowed or completely interrupted. This disease causes a wide range of symptoms such as vision problems, sensory disturbances, motor weakness of the extremities, sphincter dysfunction, dizziness, tremors, and pain. Pain is a particularly prominent symptom that significantly affects the quality of life of MS patients. The mechanisms of pain in MS are not fully understood, but it is most often neuropathic, nociceptive, or nociplastic pain, which can manifest in various ways. Pain management presents a significant challenge, and the role of the nurse/technician is of utmost importance in this process. Nurses/technicians provide patients with psychological and emotional support, administer prescribed therapy, and educate patients on the proper use of analgesics and non-pharmacological pain relief methods. The collaboration between nurses/technicians, patients, and physicians is key to improving the quality of life of those affected. The aim of this paper is to understand the impact of pain on the quality of life of people with MS and how the interventions of nurses/technicians can help in pain management and overall quality of life improvement. This paper provides insight into the daily challenges faced by those affected, highlighting the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and continuous support in the treatment process. Through the analysis of modern pain management methods and strategies, the paper emphasizes the crucial role of medical professionals in enabling a better and more fulfilling life for people with MS.
