Abstract Rad objašnjava razvoj i upravljanje GIS projektima koji predstavljaju kompjutorizirani sustav za održavanje podataka u geografskom prostoru te se koriste za pružanje geoloških informacija o određenim lokacijama na karti. U radu je definiran i objašnjen geografski informacijski sustav (GIS), GIS aplikacije i GIS projekti, vrste GIS aplikacija, digitalna rasterska grafika (DRG), modeliranje, modeli prostornih podataka: karte i baze podataka, primjena GIS-a kao baze podataka za istraživačke projekte, komponente GIS – a te razmjer i rezolucija. Nadalje, u radu je objašnjen razvoj projekata geografskog informacijskog sustava, začetak modernog GIS-a, razvoju GIS–a i DBMS–a (Database Management System), suvremeni razvojni trendovi sustava za obradu podataka: hardver u GIS–u i softver u GIS–u, WEB GIS te današnji dobavljači GIS softvera. Rad naglašava objašnjavanje upravljanja GIS projektima, sustave za upravljanje bazama podataka, definiranje tri pravila integriteta podataka, čimbenike upravljanja GIS projektom, prikupljanje podataka za projekt, životni ciklus i prototipizaciju upravljanja GIS projektima. U zadnjem dijelu rada prikazan je GIS-u u cestovnom prometu, projekti praćenja prometnih nesreća i GIS alati za analiziranje prometnih nesreća, kolizijski dijagrami, upravljanje cestama u Republici Hrvatskoj, WEB-based INTERNET te globalni sustavi za navigaciju.
Abstract (english) The paper explains the development and management of GIS projects that represent a computerized system for maintaining data in geographic space and are used to provide geological information about specific locations on a map. The paper defines and explains geographic information system (GIS), GIS applications and GIS projects, types of GIS applications, digital raster graphics (DRG), modeling, spatial data models: maps and databases, application of GIS as a database for research projects, GIS components and scale and resolution. Furthermore, the paper explains the development of geographic information system projects, the beginning of modern GIS, the development of GIS and DBMS (Database Management System), modern development trends of data processing systems: hardware in GIS and software in GIS, WEB GIS and today's GIS software vendors. The paper emphasizes the explanation of GIS project management, database management systems, defining three data integrity rules, GIS project management factors, project data collection, life cycle and prototyping of GIS project management. The last part of the paper presents GIS in road traffic, traffic accident monitoring projects and GIS tools for traffic accident analysis, collision diagrams, road management in the Republic of Croatia, WEB-based INTERNET and global navigation systems.
