Abstract (english) Nutrients are dissolved inorganic compounds of nitrogen (ammonium, nitrites and nitrates), phosphorus (orthophosphates) and silicon (orthosilicates) dissolved in seawater that play an important role in primary production and which, after the death of organisms, sedimentation and heterotrophic degradation, are remineralized and returned into the water column. Eutrophication is the process of enriching the aquatic habitat with nutrients that leads to an increase in phytoplankton biomass and an increased flow of particulate organic matter towards the bottom. The aim of the study was to determine eutrophic conditions in Budava Bay in 2017 by analyzing adequate parameters in the water column and surface sediment, at stations close to the fish cages and at the station not directly influenced by the farms and to compare them. The results showed that fish farming can significantly affect eutrophic conditions by increasing the nutrient concentrations of Budava Bay, although this was predominantly restricted to the area around the cage. In December 2017, this did not significantly affect the trophic status, i.e. the highest values of the eutrophication indicators in the water column (orthophosphate and total inorganic nitrogen) were in the range describing the oligotrophic state. However, it should be noted that, unlike the winter season, during the spring and summer, the usual stratification of the water column is significantly pronounced, which may lead to increased organic matter formation in intensive primary production processes, and additional research is required in these critical seasons.
