Abstract (english) The beginnings of slum tourism occur in the mid-eighteenth century in London and other cities, and are the result of an increase in the number of residents coming from the countryside to the industrial city in search of work. Nowadays, we can encounter various forms of tourism, and slum tourism is one of the specific forms that is rapidly expanding its popularity around the world. Slums are neighborhoods of poverty where residents do not ‘live’ but ‘reside’. They are characterized as places without basic services where residents live "outside the law" and in unhealthy living conditions. Another characteristic of slums is that they are overcrowded, ie. the size of the space per person is too small. Due to these characteristics, the question of the ethics of slum tourism arises. Opinions are divided; some describe tourists as immoral observers, turning other people's plight into a spectacle, and the view of poverty is compared to a visit to a zoo, while others describe slum tourism as a learning experience through which residents receive money from tourists and point out that poverty can be considered valuable. Travel agencies have the task of breaking stereotypes about slums, raising the standards of living and involving residents in decision-making, and only then can slum tourism be considered ethically acceptable.
