međunarodnih spajanja i preuzimanja, prodajom udjela i podružnica određenih multinacionalnih
kompanija.
Abstract (english) International financing of business activities is crucial for the development of all countries. For this
reason, this dissertation analyzes foreign direct investment and its trends in the post-pandemic period.
The COVID-19 virus pandemic has had a huge negative impact on FDI movements. For this purpose,
analyzes were conducted which indicate absolute and relative reductions in foreign direct investment
flows at the global level and by the development of the economy and sectors. As a result of the
pandemic, global foreign direct investment flows dropped by 35% in 2020, reaching $1 trillion,
compared to $1.5 trillion in 2019. FDI fell sharply by as much as 58% in both developed and transition
economies. On the other hand, such a large decline did not occur in developing economies where FDI
declined by a moderate 8%. The value of greenfield announcements in developing countries fell by
44% and announcements for international project funding fell as much as 53% in 2020 in relation to
2019, compared to 16% and 28% in developed countries. In 2020, the number of introduced policy
measures that affected foreign investment increased by approximately 42% compared to the number
in 2019. The analyzes are accompanied by concrete examples of international mergers and
acquisitions, sales of shares and subsidiaries of certain multinational companies. In response to the
pandemic, newly introduced policies and regulations are explained which aim to protect local
economies related to increasing control of foreign direct investment and the specific problems that
led to the pandemic. In addition, financial products which supportsustainable development have been
introduced, which are crucial in the recovery of economies from the pandemic and for solving the
problems present long before the pandemic has occured, such as excessive environmental pollution
of production activities. Thus, in addition to negative impacts, this pandemic provided an opportunity
for improvement in certain segments, such as the already mentioned focus on sustainable financial
products available on traditional stock exchanges, derivatives exchanges and the involvement of
institutional investors in the process of achieving efficient sustainability.
