Abstract Glavno obilježje psihosomatskih poremećaja jest prisutnost tjelesnih simptoma bez jasnih organskih uzroka. Mogu prouzročiti bolesna stanja u kojima emocije traže „izlaz“ do tjelesnih organa kompliciranijim putem. Dovode do poteškoća u motoričkom, kognitivnom, socijalnom i emocionalnom funkcioniranju.
Abstract (english) The main characteristic of psychosomatic disorders is the presence of physical symptoms without obvious physical cause. They can cause a state of sickness in which the emotion is looking for an “exit” in a more complicated way, through the organs. This can lead to difficulties in motoric, cognitive, social and emotional functioning. Therefor they affect the child’s physical and psychological aspects, its personality, interpersonal relationships, socialization and success. It is necessary to eliminate possible situations/events/conflicts and/or diminish its intensity, develop protective mechanisms, create positive self-image and improve confidence by encouraging verbal and non-verbal communication. Psychosomatic disorders represent long and complex process of recognition and diagnostic, but only among small number of children they require serious treatment and therapy. When the connection between psychological and physical is established, physical disorders can be used as a signal overload. That way strength and energy can be easily focused on reducing and eliminating the source. The quality of partnership between parents and educational institutions is the foundation for early recognition and satisfying all child’s needs. When communication is open and honest, a sense of trust, understanding, acceptance and security is being built between parties. Active participation of both parties in child’s life is necessary for healthy growth, development and discovery of possible difficulties in psycho-social and emotional functioning. Too much effort has been put into suppressing the symptoms of psychosomatic illness instead of the situations that cause them.
