Abstract Redovito vježbanje pozitivno doprinosi psihičkom i fizičkom zdravlju, no jednom kada vježbanje počne upravljati ostalim aspektima života više se ne radi o zdravoj navici. U istraživanju su korišteni sljedeći mjerni instrumenti: Skala ovisnosti o vježbanju (Exercise Dependence Scale-21), Upitnik navika hranjenja (Eating Attitudes Test-26) i Frostova Multidimenzionalna skala perfekcionizma (Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale-Frost).
Abstract (english) Habitual exercising has positive effects on psychological and physical health, but if exercising becomes superior to every other aspect of one’s life it becomes the problem. Exercise dependence is defined by uncontrollable urge to exercise and satisfying that urge presents the ultimate goal. Many personality traits are found to be connected to exercise dependence, perfectionism being one of them. Studies suggest that people with higher levels of perfectionism tend to experience more exercise dependence symptoms. Furthermore, exercise dependence symptoms are more likely to be found in people with disordered eating. This study was carried out to determine the relationship between exercise dependence, on the one hand, and perfectionism and disordered eating, on the other hand. Measuring instruments used for assessment were: Exercise Dependence Scale-21, Eating Attitudes Test-26 and Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale. Participants of this study were 281 women from the age of 19 to 29. Confirmatory factory analysis confirmed the original Exercise Dependence Scale seven-factor structure. Several correlation analyses found exercise dependence, perfectionism and disordered eating to be positively correlated. In line with expectations, participants with more exercise dependence symptoms were higher on perfectionism and disordered eating. Analyses conducted to determine if there are any differences between participants with exercise dependence symptoms and participants without those symptoms when it comes to perfectionism and disordered eating showed that participants with exercise dependence symptoms scored significantly higher on personal standards, concern over mistakes, doubts about actions, organization and dieting than those without symptoms. Finally, by examining relative contributions of individual group of variables explaining exercise dependence, it was found that personal standards and doubts about actions as dimensions of perfectionism and dieting as aspect of disordered eating were significant predictors of exercise dependence. Participants who have higher personal standards, express more doubts about actions and often engage in dieting experience more exercise dependence symptoms. Perfectionism dimensions and disordered eating aspects combined explained about 23.2% of variance in exercise dependence.
